Our kind and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Coral Blackburn Sterling, age 74, died May 12, 1997 in Gunnison, Utah, after a lingering illness.

She was born October 3, 1922 in Lyman, Utah, a daughter of Wallace Lund and Thelma Alzina Cook Blackburn. She married Del Mar Clinton Sterling, March 8, 1940 in Loa, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, March 7, 1947.Coral graduated from Wayne High School, class of 1940. She was an active member of the LDS Church, working in the Primary, Relief Society, Stake Relief Society Board and Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She helped organize Granite Park Camp and served as captain. She was a member of Miller Camp of Salt Lake City, where she served as captain for several years, and a member of Camp Thousand Lake of Lyman. She was very active in the Democratic Party. Coral and Del Mar lived in Salt Lake City from 1940 until 1995, when they moved back to Lyman. She loved her family, her children and grandchildren. She took in several of her nephews and nurtured them after their mothers had died. Coral loved flowers, especially roses.

She is survived by her husband, of Lyman; children, Delma S. Tucker, Coralynn S. Cook, Ted and Sandy Sterling, all of Salt Lake City; Wayne and Joann Sterling, of Taylorsville; Tim Sterling, of Kearns; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Helen Beth Smith, of Fremont; Darlene and Don Powers, of Roosevelt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two sisters, Retta Tanner and Vella June Story.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 1997 at 1 p.m. in the Lyman LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at Jenkins Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street in Murray, Thursday evening 6-8 p.m. and Friday evening at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, 260 North 400 West, 7-9 p.m. and at the ward chapel in Lyman, Saturday, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. prior to the services. Burial, Loa Cemetery.

The family would like to express their thanks for the loving care the staff at Gunnison Valley Hospital gave to Coral during her final days. Especially thanks to Dr. Dwight Inouye and his wonderful office staff.
