What are the odds that someone who found almost $50,000 in cash in Provo 15 months ago would turn that money into the police? Steve Klein, the Park City resident who lost $49,000 in February of last year, still has hope that will happen.
Klein had a First Security Bank deposit bag with him the day he stopped to wash his 1995 Mustang at a Supersonic Car Wash in Provo. But he didn't have that bag with him a few minutes later. He remembers leaning down to shine a chrome tail-pipe and setting the bag on the ground. However, a witness at the carwash said it was on the car when Klein drove away.
Klein missed the money shortly after he turned south on Freedom Boulevard and retraced his steps but to no avail.
Provo police Lt. Greg DuVal said the case is still open and no new evidence has turned up in the 15 months since Klein reported the missing money.
"Our investigation never developed into any suspects. We never cleared the case," said DuVal.
Klein believes whoever found the money may be having trouble spending the money without raising suspicion or might be experiencing an attack of conscience.
Klein said he requires surgery in the near future and needs the money.
He's asking anyone with information to contact the First Security Bank at 342-2164 or the police department.
