On May 9, I was able to accompany my three small grandchildren to the Book Fair at Franklin Quest Field organized by Fidelity for their employees. The children were each able to choose two books from the large selection of age appropriate materials. They carried their bags of books down to the section where they were able to update their SAFE KID identification packets.
Self-selection also went into choosing their own lunches, and then we were able to listen to some very talented storytellers.Upon arriving home we immediately sat down on the front lawn to read through each book that will be added to their home library.
I know of no other large corporation that goes to such great lengths to promote literacy with young children. As a teacher I know what an important tool self-selection is in motivating children to read. I applaud Fidelity and the time and effort it put into organizing this annual event. What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
