Last year, Timpview didn't manage to get out of the inter-region round of the playoffs. This year, thanks to a few upsets, the Thunderbirds are looking at making a run at the state championship.

Aaron Ross scored twice to lift Timpview to a 3-2 win over Cyprus. Jeremy Sifuentes also scored as the Thunderbirds built a 3-0 lead before Cyprus made a spirited comeback in the game's final minutes.Tony Pollock and Paul Turpin both scored for the Pirates as the clock ran out, sending Timpview into the quarterfinals. "Just getting back into final eight is pretty special," said Timpview coach Mike Winn. "But we had to fight to get past Cyprus. That's a good team going in the right direction."

The Thunderbirds, the Region 8 champs, advance to play Bear River in the first of four quarterfinal games Tuesday at Woods Cross High School.

Springville 4, Woods Cross 1: Ryan Miller and Matt Nelson both scored two goals as the Red Devils pulled the biggest upset of the 4A soccer tournament's inter-region round.

Ben Lomond 1, East 0: Tyler Brenchley scored the game's only goal off an assist from J.R. McPhie and Danny Liptrot. The Scots advance to play Springville in the quarterfinals.

Tooele 3, Box Elder 2: Brandon Dunn scored the game-winning with about two minutes left in the game for his second goal as the Buffaloes stopped the Bees. Tooele also got a goal from Dylan Gibson while Matt Pevley and Jim Beadles scored for Box Elder.

Provo 2, West 1: Nate Hutchings and David Ware powered the Bulldogs past the Panthers and into the quarterfinals where they'll meet top-ranked Sky View.

Sky View 2, Judge 1 (OT): After a scoreless 80 minutes of soccer, Nic Butler scored two goals and lifted the Bobcats to an overtime win over the Bulldogs. The goals were the 13th and 14th of the season for Butler.

Bear River 2, Olympus 1: The Bears upset Olympus when Nate Davis was tripped from behind on a break away and awarded a penalty kick late in the game and snapped a 1-1 tie. Ryan Hataburda also scored for the Bears.

Ogden 5, Pleasant Grove 4: The Tigers knocked off the Vikings in a see-saw battle with a hat-trick from Curtis Lindley including a header in the second overtime period that proved to be the game-winner. Brett Williams and Curtis Critchlow also scored for Ogden. The Vikings got goals from Jeff Dastrup, Nate Arnell, Jordan Schiller and Jeff Strong.
