A gunman wearing a gas mask escaped with a large sum of cash Sunday after stealing a money cart from two security guards at Caesars Palace Hotel-Casino.
One security guard was treated at the hotel after he was sprayed in the face with a chemical believed to be Mace, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. Larry Spinosa. No other injuries were reported.Spinosa would not disclose the amount of money taken. One source who requested anonymity said the loss was in the "low six figures."
Two hotel security guards were transporting the money cart from the Olympic casino cage to the main casino cage when they were approached by the robber in front of the resort's Ahso Restaurant.
"The man was wearing a gas mask and heavy black gloves," Spinosa said. "He sprayed one of the guards with a Mace spray, then pulled a gun before the other guard could react," Spinosa said.
The robber wheeled the cart away. It was later found on the hotel's third-floor.
