Auditions have been scheduled for several upcoming local stage productions.
- SALT LAKE SHAKESPEARE'S production of "Side by Side by Sondheim," on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. until noon in the Utah Opera Production Studios, 336 N. 400 West. Auditioners should prepare two songs, one of which should be by Stephen Sondheim. An accompanist will be provided.SLS's artistic director, Alexander Gelman, will direct the musical revue, scheduled to run June 12-29. Auditions for the remainder of this summer's SLS season -"Twelfth Night" and "The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged)" - will be announced later.
- WOMEN ONLY are being asked to audition for the Off Broadway Theatre's latest espionage parody, "Dumb Blond: Laugh Till You Spy," with tryouts scheduled for Saturday, May 10, from noon to 3 p.m.
Cody K. Carlson will direct Bob Bedore's original script.
There are roles for two women, ages 18 to 36, to round out the cast of the James Bond spoof. Hair color is not a factor (the title refers to the male hero and is not a comment about the women, who're all smarter than the play's heroes). There will be cold readings from the script. Auditioners do not need to come with prepared material. Various accents are welcome. All acting positions are paid.
The comedy will run June 26-Aug.2.
- "JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT," on Saturday, May 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Hillcrest Junior High School choral room, 126 E. 5300 South, Murray.
Play dates for the Murray City Arts Council production, being directed by Brent Schnei-der, are July 31-Aug. 6.
- "PROMISED VALLEY," another Murray City Arts Council production, on Thursday, May 8, and Friday, May 9, at Hillcrest Junior High School.
Thursday: Tryouts for adults, 12 and over, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. All roles are open. Please prepare 16 bars of a Broadway song.
Friday: Auditions for children, 6 to 11 years old, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and for dancers only at 8 p.m. (16 years of age and older). The production requires 12 strong dancers - six male and six female. Come dressed appropriately to learn a dance routine.
The production, which will be presented July 17-19 and 21 in the Murray Park Amphitheater, is being directed by Jim E. Smith, with Margene B. Conde as choreographer and Chris-tine Mickelsen as musical director. For further information, call 264-2614.
