Dean A. Wright has been named the new director of Dining Services at Brigham Young University, effective June 9.

Involved in dining services for nearly 23 years, Wright will replace Samuel Brooks, who is retiring. Wright was the director of Utah State University Food Services for seven years.At BYU, Wright will be in charge of the dining facilities at the residence halls and the Missionary Training Center, the Cougar Eat, the Creamery and dairy labs, the Skyroom, catering and the BYU meat plant.

In 1996, Wright served as president of the National Association of College and University Food Services. In that capacity, he had the opportunity to tour the dining services of universities in the United States, Canada and Australia.

Wright has also worked as the general manager of Food Services for the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii and as the assistant director of university dining at Pennsylvania State University.

He spent nearly seven years as the director of Food Services and Auxiliaries at BYU-Hawaii.

Wright received his bachelor's degree from BYU in 1974. He is a licensed dietitian, a certified sanitarian and a certificate professional cook.

Wright intends to add more international foods, low-fat items and vegetarian entrees to BYU's cafeterias while keeping prices affordable for students.

"My goal is to listen to students and to respond to their needs and requests," Wright said.
