Stephen P. Pidcock, 19.
Davis County Sheriff's Lt. Roger Anderson said Pidcock and Adam M. Hedgepeth, 19, East Millcreek, were four-wheeling in the area above the block letter "B" above Bountiful Tuesday morning.
Hedgepeth's vehicle had a flat tire and the two took the tire off and were coming down the mountain in Pidcock's older model Ford pickup to fix it when the accident occurred just before 11 a.m.
Hedgepeth said the brakes in Pidcock's truck were "a little squishy," Anderson said, then failed completely. They tried to put the emergency brake on, Anderson said, but the truck went off the road and rolled when Pidcock turned the wheel.
The truck may have rolled up to nine times, Anderson said. Both men were wearing lap belts but the older model truck was not equipped with shoulder belts, Anderson said.
Pidcock died at the scene of head injuries, and Hedgepeth was flown to LDS Hospital, also with head lacerations. Anderson said Hedgepeth's condition has improved and he may be released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
