Charges against the remaining defendants in the Little Rascals sex abuse case will be dropped, prosecutors said Friday.

Prosecutors dropped 99 pending charges against day-care owner Robert F. Kelly and seven charges against former cook Dawn Wilson.Kelly was at the center of the state's longest and most costly trial - and certainly North Carolina's most notorious child-abuse case. Kelly, his wife, Betsy, and five others were charged in 1989 with 429 counts of sexually abusing 29 children at his Little Rascals Day Care Center in Edenton.

Kelly and Wilson both were convicted and sentenced to life in prison, but their convictions and sentences were overturned by the state Court of Appeals in 1995.
