A new taxi being built near New York City's Times Square is as long as a stretch limousine - and it has four oars.

Some high school students are building the boat as part of a "Floating the Apple" project for the Junior Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. It's a throwback to the four-oared water taxis of the early 1900s that ran up and down the East and Hudson rivers and across New York Harbor.

It has a tentative launch set for the end of May. Once in the water, it will be used by the Junior Naval ROTC for training exercises.
