The second annual Human Race, a 5K run/walk, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Novell Orem campus. The race is held to help residents raise money for their favorite charities.
The Human Race lets charities sign up to participate through the United Way Volunteer Center and recruit volunteers and supporters to gather pledges from neighbors and friends. Several local companies encourage their employees to participate and get them started by underwriting $5-$35 in pledges."Last year three hundred people showed up for the race, and their combined pledges totaled more than $14,000," said Bill Hulterstrom, president, United Way of Utah County.
Several Utah Valley companies sponsor and organize the race, including Novell, Nu Skin International, The Daily Herald, Press Publishing and Intermountain Health Care.
The Human Race allows people to walk, run, roll or stroll along a 5K wheelchair-accessible course.
Each participant needs to obtain an official pledge form from participating employers or the United Way Volunteer Center, 148 N. 100 West, Provo. For information call the center at 374-8108.
