Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Frank A. Carling, passed away May 7, 1997, in Salt Lake City from complications of surgery.
He was born September 4, 1921 to Beatrice O'Connor Carling, Jones and Frank Carling in Norristown, PA. He was raised by stepfather, David II, Jones, whom he loved dearly.He married Velma O. Wood in Salt Lake City March 27, 1945; they became dedicated parents of eight children.
Survivors are sons and daughters, Kay (Delbert) Sutherland; David (Holly) Carling, Susan Spencer, Marc (Kaye) Carling, Vickie (Ron) Cook, Sally Carling, all of Salt Lake City; brother, David (Clara) Jones; sisters, Marilyn (Herbert) Weikle, Marjorie Pickell, all Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two sons, Michael R., and Frank B. Carling; sister, Beatrice Grisdale.
Frank was in the Air Force during World War II, received training at Wendover field and sent to the Island of Tinian with the group who handled and dropped the first Atomic Bomb.
He was a salesman for Five States Beauty & Barber Supply for 30 years. After retirement, he worked at the Salt Palace as a "Blue Coat" for several years.
He made friends everywhere he went and had a wonderful sense of humor that never stopped.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 10, 1997, at 11 a.m., in the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, SLC. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and also Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave and N Street, SLC.
