SOFTBALL: Utah overcame some sloppy defense to down Southern Utah 7-3 in game one of a doubleheader and then used the long ball to rout the Thunderbirds, 9-1, in the nightcap to compete the sweep Wednesday at Thunderbird Field in Cedar City.The Utes moved to 41-16 with the pair of wins. The Thunderbirds finished the season at 24-29, the most wins during their nine-year NCAA Division I era.
Ali Andrus-Sagas picked up the win in game one to improve to 21-9, allowing three runs - two earned - on five hits and two walks while striking out six, despite four Ute errors in the field.
SUU's Tony Peters had her 14-game hitting streak snapped.
Brigham Young
TENNIS: Eight men and eight women members of BYU's tennis programs are set to compete in this weekend's NCAA Regional Championships.
The 30th-ranked Cougar women travel to Lawrence, Kansas while the 51st-ranked BYU men's team heads to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Eline Chiew leads the women's team, with senior Boris Bosnjakovic heading the men's line-up. Chiew and Bosnjakovic have automatically qualified for the NCAA Individual Singles Championships which follows the team competition and begins May 17.
BYU's women's team will take on 27th-ranked New Mexico, a team they beat 5-4 in the semifinals of this year's WAC Tournament.
This will be the first time for BYU's men's team to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships. The Cougars play the University of Utah on Friday in Las Vegas.
The two Utah schools met twice during the regular season with the Utes winning both contests.

BASKETBALL SIGNINGS: Dusty Walker (6-10, 240, Vega, Texas) and Tyrone Ellis (6-1, 170, Queens, N.Y.) have signed letters of intent to play basketball at Southern Utah University next season.
