Consumer-members of the Garkane Power Association Inc. are benefiting from some $400,000 being distributed through a capital credit refund program.

Officials said the refunds are based on a strong financial performance of the nearly 6,000-member cooperative during 1996. It marks the fourth consecutive year of capital credit rebates.Garkane has distributed more than $1.6 million during the period of capital credit refunds while electricity rates have remained stable, according to Carl Albrecht, general manager.

Garkane is a nonprofit cooperative, so profits are refunded to member consumers.
