Skyline's bid to repeat as 5A boys tennis champions could be as easy as one, two, three.
Led by all three of last year's state singles titlists, the Eagles headline this weekend's 5A tournament at Liberty Park."We're the favorites," said Skyline coach Dan Snarr. "And I think our chances are real good."
Seniors Matt Stohl (No. 1), Kevin Zenger (No. 2) and Brandon Greenwood (No. 3) have yet to lose this season, despite competing in powerful Region 2.
"I think it's their year," Snarr said of the trio that ended Alta's five-year reign as team champions and gave the Eagles their first-ever boys tennis title 12 months ago. "And I know we don't want to give (the championship) up."
The road back, however, could be a bit more difficult. Skyline's second doubles team failed to qualify and its top duo (senior Ryan Hatch and freshman Aaron Fuhriman) is unproven at state.
Skyline won last year's tournament by 13 points. The Eagles picked up 25 to edge Alta , Bountiful and Brighton for top honors.
Play begins Friday morning at 9 at Liberty Park. Saturday competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
