Two years after the Million Man March in Washington, a group called on 1 million black women to attend a similar rally in Philadelphia this fall.

The National Organizing Committee for the Million Woman March said the Oct. 25 rally was designed to raise awareness of several issues - education and health care in black communities and the difficult transition after prison for black women. The march also would be in support of a probe led by Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., into published reports of links between the CIA and crack cocaine suppliers in California.

"March as a step forward from ignorance, genocide, imprisonment, false representation, misinformation and disunity," organizer Basiymah Muhammad of Philadelphia said Wednesday.

Organizer Alia Rashied said the march was modeled after the massive 1995 march in Washington, organized by Nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan for black men. "We are affirming the Million Man March," she said.
