Salt Lake police are asking for the public's help in locating family or friends of a man found dead in a surplus canal Sunday.
The man was identified as Kurt Bergmann, 36, address unknown.Bergmann was found May 4 in a surplus canal of the Jordan River west of the Salt Lake International Airport. His body was pulled from the canal after fisherman in the area told authorities they saw a body float under a bridge near 4800 West and 700 North. Determination of the cause of death is pending, said Salt Lake police detective Jill Candland.
Candland said officers have been unable to find Bergmann's next of kin, friends or acquaintances.
Candland said the man may have spent time in the Ogden area. He also listed an east bench address, near 1500 East and 1500 South, when he was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail in March 1995.
Anyone with information about Bergmann, his friends, family or associates is asked to call the Salt Lake police homicide squad at 799-3730.
