Workers at a Chrysler Corp. engine plant will decide Friday whether to ratify a new contract to end a monthlong strike that has crippled the automaker's North American truck production.

Chrysler seems to have gotten its way, but its firm stand against the United Auto Workers union came at a hefty price.Negotiators reached tentative agreement Wednesday to end the walkout by 1,856 workers, which began April 9 at the Detroit plant. No details were released pending the ratification vote.

The deal is believed to allow the company to farm out about 250 drive-shaft production jobs to an independent supplier - the key dispute.
