Beginning next week, executives at the broadcast television networks will begin announcing their fall schedules.

They'll be canceling shows left and right and renewing a whole lot of other programs. Just as they always do.And just as we've done for the past couple of years, we're asking our readers which shows they'd like to see back and which they'd like to see hit the trash heap.

That's right. It's time for the third annual Deseret News Television Survey - time once again for you to praise the praiseworthy and revile the vile.

No, this is not a scientific survey. But it is a chance for you and your fellow readers/viewers to express your opinions.

The defending champions from both sides of last year's survey were both back this season. "Touched by an Angel," the runaway winner as your favorite TV program, has become a bigger hit than ever.

If you still detest "Roseanne" - the two-time defending champion as the show you hate the most - this will be your last chance to cast a ballot against the ABC sitcom. It will be airing its final episode later this month.

But there are plenty of other shows to choose from. To make this at least somewhat manageable, we're asking you to choose your three favorite and three least-favorite shows from among the prime-time offerings on the broadcast networks - ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, UPN and the WB.

That leaves you with a considerable number of shows to choose from. Nearly 100 shows aired on those networks just last week, and since the season began in September, there have been more than 170 series in total.

Please do not include choices from daytime, late-night, cable or syndicated programming. (We have to keep this survey within the realm of the relatively practical.)

Just fill out the accompanying ballots and return them to the Deseret News. We'll accept everything that's postmarked no later than Saturday, May 17.

Feel free to add a few brief comments in the space provided. And, please, fill out the statistical information - your age and your gender. We're not trying to pry (the ballots do not require a signature), but with that information we can get a look at the TV likes and dislikes of different demographic groups.

We'll compile all that information and share it with you as soon as possible It will give us an idea of what real people - not network programmers - think about what's on TV.
