Construction of a railroad overpass on 200 North in west Kaysville is years away at best. But city officials believe it is time to begin protecting the right of way for such a possible structure.

At its May 6 meeting, the City Council approved a resolution creating a limited-access area around the Union Pacific tracks. This means that any new access or construction will be prohibited in the area along 200 North, 530 feet westward and 450 feet eastward. The area must be kept clear.

Mayor H. Arthur Johnson said it would be ideal if the state would help construct such an overpass during the overhaul of I-15 between Kaysville and Salt Lake County sometime after I-15 in S.L. County is rebuilt.

However, funding is the key issue. Roy City has struggled for more than 10 years to get a railroad overpass along 5600 South. Construction in Roy began last month.

Clearfield is also fighting for funding to get an overpass along 200 South to the Freeport Center.
