A man was hospitalized this week after suffering a gunshot wound to the face.

George Chambers, 18, was shot about 2 a.m. Monday at a Taylorsville residence, 6481 S. 2200 West, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Larry Marx. The bullet entered the man's face near his left ear and exited his right cheek.Several witnesses in the home at the time have been uncooperative with investigators, Marx said.

Chambers reportedly told investigators someone barged in a back door and shot him in the face. But detectives believe an acquaintance shot Chambers with a .380-caliber automatic handgun, Marx said.

Chambers was flown to University Hospital via helicopter. He was discharged Wednesday, a spokeswoman said.

Investigators believe Chambers lives east of Murray and that the gunman did not live at the home. A weapon has not been recovered, and no arrests have been made, Marx said.
