Talk show host Jerry Springer ended his brief tenure as a television news commentator, saying, "It's gotten too personal."
He resigned Thursday amid a furor over his qualifications and whether he lied in his first commentary earlier this week. Springer said he felt relieved."This is my happiest day in a week. Enough is enough," he said.
His hiring by NBC's WMAQ-TV in part prompted the resignation last week of longtime news anchor Carol Marin, who called Springer "the poster child for the worst television has to offer"
Springer, host of a Chicago-based syndicated talk show that has featured such topics as "I Hate My Wife's Gay Friend," had been called upon to comment daily on life in Chicago. He gave his first news commentary on Monday and answered criticism about his right to speak.
