Auditions for the Lighthouse Theatre's melodrama, "The Dastardly School Chum or the Greedy Grammarian," will be held on Saturdays, May 10 and 17, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the theater, located at Cottonwood Mall (the freestanding building southeast of JCPenney).
The 45-minute comedy, written by Omar Hansen, calls for four males and three females. These roles do not require singing or dancing. However, the ensemble will also participate in a 30-minute variety show, which will consist of singing, dancing and comedy "olio"-style acts. All auditioners will be asked to read from the script. Dancers will be taught an eight-measure dance combination. Singers should come prepared to sing 16 bars of a song of their own choice.
The production, scheduled to run June 3-Aug. 3, will be double- and triple-cast in order to accomodate youths' summer schedules.
Some performances will be during the day (11 a.m. or 1 p.m. for children's shows), with several evening performances including some dinner-theater presentations.
Those interested in assisting behind the scenes (technical work, concessions, makeup, props, public relations, ushering, hair styling, etc.) are asked to call Sheryl at 278-5313 - or the same number for further information about the auditions.
