Two women apparently stuffed the ashes of a deceased woman into a tissue box and walked out of an Ogden mortuary Tuesday.

The two told an employee at Myers Mortuary that the deceased was a friend, said Ogden police Lt. Scott Sangberg. The women asked for some time alone with the ashes and requested tissue. Police believe the two used the box to smuggle a portion of the ashes out of the building. The suspected ash thieves told a boyfriend of the deceased what they had done and he contacted authorities. The women stole the cremated remains to spread the ashes on a mountain side, he told police.

The woman died last week in a motorcycle accident in Box Elder County. Her ashes were at the mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., awaiting funeral services.
