A California computer company that illegally bought and sold Novell Inc. software products must pay the company more than $4 million, a U.S. District court judge has ruled.

Novell had accused Vandy Micro, a computer software reseller that also does business as Micro Control Systems, of selling fraudulent software upgrades.During the trial, a former employee testified the company used customer information to fraudulently obtain upgrades of Novell NetWare and IntranetWare. The upgrades were then sold to unsuspecting customers as new product.

Frank Vanderputt, president of Vandy Micro, also exported the illegal products to Europe.
