A former football player who caught the winning touchdown pass in Brigham Young University's Cotton Bowl victory last year pleaded guilty Monday in 4th District Court to simple assault.

Levi K.O. Kealaluhi, 24, entered the plea to the class B misdemeanor through his attorney. Kealaluhi, who was originally charged with a class A misdemeanor, remained at his home in California. The San Diego native was charged with assault in February following a fight at a city recreational-league basketball game. Kealaluhi head-butted and punched an opposing player after both threw a ball at each other. According to a police report, the two wrestled to the floor.

Prosecutors say he again punched the other player a few minutes later near a drinking fountain. The other player suffered lacerations to his face that required stitches. Shortly after charges were filed, Kealaluhi admitted a fight took place but said both players were equally responsible.
