ABC makes its T.G.I.F. lineup more magical tonight - with mixed results.
Following the success of "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch," the network is adding a genie and an angel. Both shows are aimed mostly at they younger set, and "Teen Angel" has considerably better aim than "You Wish."- You Wish (8 p.m., Ch. 4) is sort of "I Dream of Jeannie" with the genders reversed. Former MTV personality John Ales (who's apparently trying to look like the late Frank Zappa) plays a wacky genie who's been rolled up in a rug for 2,000 years. Harley Jane Kozak plays the single mother of two who brings him home.
Dopey does not begin to describe "You Wish." It's predictable and just dumb. It's the sort of thing that might appeal to the preschool crowd, but adults will just gag.
- Teen Angel (8:30 p.m., Ch. 4) isn't great, but it is better than "You Wish." A lot of the jokes fall flat, but some of them actually work.
The premise is sort of twisted (which isn't surprising, since the creators/producers used to run the show on "The Simpsons.") Marty (Mike Damus) dies when he eats a bad hamburger and returns to earth as the guardian angel of his best friend (Utahn Corbin Allred).
Again, it's pretty predictable. But the cast is appealing - it also includes Maureen McCormick ("The Brady Bunch") - it has a few laughs, and it's inoffensive.
