Bountiful is not alone in the race for the 4A championship after all.

Liz Condie saw to that.East, with Condie minding the net, shutout the Braves 2-0 and put a new spin not only on the Region 5 standings but the fight for the state championship.

"It's a very big win for us," said East coach Mike Kernodle. "Bountiful was the team with the hype, and they deserved it. They're the defending 5A champs. But this shows that we can beat anybody."

Condie got her mits on just about everything Caroline Putz and the rest of the Braves fired at the goal to pick up another shutout.

"I feel good," Condie said, "but I want a state championship. This is just one step."

After the Leopards opened up a first-half lead on Jamie Steffensen's goal about five minutes into the game, Condie and the rest of East's defense took control of the game. Jessie Orme found a loose ball in front of the net after a scramble and booted it in to put the Leopards firmly in control with only 15 minutes to play.

Clearfield 2, Layton 0: Freshman Sharci Bennington scored both goals as the Falcons beat the Lancers to improve to 4-5.

Davis 4, Cottonwood 0: Kara Alexander scored twice as the Darts improved to 6-3 behind shutout goalkeeping by Jeff Hewlett.

Northridge 1, Skyline 0: The Knights benifited from an own-goal off a corner kick midway through the first half to upset the Eagles.

Region 2

Bingham 1, Taylorsville 0: Lindy Peterson scored off a corner kick to lift the 8-1 Miners to a big win over the Warriors.

Kearns 11, Granger 1: Gabi Strot-tner had six goals and Tami Wilcox added two to help the Cougars cruise to an easy win.

Copper Hills 4, Hunter 3 : The Grizzlies got two goals from Louisa Holt to win their first game.

Region 3

Brighton 2, Mountain View 0: Jordan Sleight scored first and then assisted on Amber Anderson's goal to lift the Bengals past the Bruins.

Jordan 2, Hillcrest 1 : Heidi Gilbert scored the game-winner as the Beetdiggers improved to 4-5.

Alta 1, Timpanogos 0: Jennie Hall scored off a Jessica Murphy assist to lift the Hawks past the pesky Timber Wolves.

CLASS 4A

Region 4

Mountain Crest 3, Roy 0: The Mustangs outran the Royals and improved to 8-1 to remain atop the region standings.

Sky View 2, Box Elder 0: Audrey Young and Mickey Folsom scored to lift the Bobcats past the Bees and to a 6-5 record.

Weber 2, Logan 1 : Aubrey Smith scored the game winner, and Kylie Blood also had a goal for the Warriors.

Bonneville 5, Fremont 4: Jennifer Cosnyka had two goals, and Michelle Lopshire added three assists for the Lakers.Region 5

Olympus 4, Highland 1: Dana Dibble scored twice and assisted another goal as the Titans dropped the Rams.

Murray 7, Cyprus 0: The Spartans got two goals and two assists from Jenny Wilardson and another pair of scores from Heather Hunt to improve to 4-2.

Judge 2, Woods Cross 1 : Helen Grisley scored the goal and Megan Young stuffed a pair of shootout penalty kicks for the Bulldogs.

Region 6

Spanish Fork 1, American Fork 0: Rachel Norris scored to lift the Dons past the Cavemen as Cindy Bushman and Stacey Wilson split the shutout.

Payson 5, Pleasant Grove 0: Rebecca Mitchell scored a pair of goals for the Lions, who improved to 8-3.

Provo 2, Springville 1: Heidi Hoffhiens scored the regulation goal for the Bulldogs, and Heather Webb knocked in a free kick.

Lone Peak 3, Timpview 2 : The first-year Knights, behind two goals from Jen Adam, put a shock into the second-ranked Thunderbirds.

Region 7

Tooele 5, Granite 0: The Buffalo got goals from Ashli Sorenson, Angie Whitehouse, Marci Condie, Lindsey Parrott and Hana Wright to upend the Farmers.

Bear River 3, Morgan 1: The Bears upset the Trojans to pick up only their second win of the year.

Ben Lomond 3, Ogden 1: The top-ranked Scots swept the Tigers as Jessica Hoskins scored twice.

Region 9

Snow Canyon 2, Cedar City 0: The Warriors got goals from Lindsay Mulliner and Bethany Jensen to bounce back from its first region loss in 15 games Tuesday to improve to 6-1.

Pine View 3, Hurricane 0: Bobbi Bladen scored twice and Alicia Broadhead added another goal for the Panthers.

Wasatch 5, Lehi 1: The Wasps got five goals in the second half, including four assisted and one scored by Melanie Whimpy to improve to 5-4.

Uintah 5, Rowland Hall 1: Hillary Enlowe scored twice and Bridgette Dart, Heather Calder and Abbie Batty each added solos to power the Utes past the Winged Lions.
