Light-rail construction will close a one-block section of Main beginning Monday.
Gilbert Western Corp. will begin relocating utility lines along Main between 400 and 500 South as the first part of a nine-month light rail construction project.Construction will not affect pedestrians, but the street will be closed to through traffic, allowing motorists access only to businesses, said Rick Thorpe, UTA's light-rail project manager.
Gilbert Western Corp. has until June 23 of next year to complete construction on Main Street between 400 and 700 South, with the exception of some roadwork between 500 and 600 South.
"Our goal is to have all the utilities between 400 South and 700 South completed by Nov. 15 so in the spring we can start track construction in that area," Thorpe said.
The 15-mile, $312 million light-rail line from Sandy to the Delta Center is scheduled for completion in March of 2000.
