A 10-year-old boy died and two people remain hospitalized after a traffic accident near Bridal Veil Falls Saturday afternoon.

Killed was:Israel Mendoza, 10, Provo.

Mendoza was a passenger in an eastbound car that spun out of control when the driver, Manual Marquez, 19, Provo, braked for another accident on U.S. 189 in Provo Canyon, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The car slammed backwards into a westbound vehicle near the Bridal Veil Falls view area about 3:45 p.m. Mendoza, riding in the back seat, was not wearing a seat belt, said UHP spokesman Lt. Verdi White II.

The driver of the second car, Alicia Moore, 25, Payson, was in critical condition Monday morning at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, said hospital spokeswoman Janet Hart. A passenger in her car, Kelly Cruiz, 18, Provo, was in satisfactory condition.

Marquez and another passenger in his car, Ismael Saavedra, 21, Provo, were treated for minor injuries and released Saturday.
