Thousands of Filipino Protestants holding signs proclaiming "Don't be afraid, Hong Kong, God is on your side," and "In Jesus' name, the bird flu out of Hong Kong," held a three-hour charismatic prayer meeting in a park on Hong Kong Island on Sunday.

They were praying for an end to both the bird flu virus, which broke out last month, and the economic depression which has affected Hong Kong - now known as the Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China - in recent months.James Chak, a Chinese pastor and general director of Asian Outreach Hong Kong which helped organize the meeting, thanked Filipino Christians for their prayers, telling them that they were no longer foreigners but "members of Hong Kong."
