West Valley Mayor Gearld Wright has bestowed the city's "Best of the Best" award upon resident Dean Trump for his years of service as a member of the city's Professional Standards and Review Board.

The board, which was organized in 1993, serves as a watchdog over the West Valley Police Department, reviewing police policy and incident reports prepared by officers.Trump was recognized by the mayor at the West Valley City council meeting Jan. 22. The award is given to residents who make exceptional contributions to the improvement of the city.

"Trump's services ensure that our police officers are doing their jobs in a professional and appropriate manner," Wright said. "He goes beyond the mark and serves with such great diligence and integrity, making truly one of West Valley City's Best of the Best."

Trump said he enjoys his work on the board because it is his way of improving the community and the lives of other West Valley residents.

West Valley Police Chief Dennis Nordfelt said that initially he was skeptical about the effectiveness of a review board. He credited Trump with its success, however, saying the board ensures the department maintains a high level of professionalism.

"After five years, this board is the best thing that could have happened to the police force," Nordfelt said.
