Elwood LeRoy Petersen returned to his heavenly father surrounded by his family on January 24, 1998 after struggling with leukemia.

He was born on January 2, 1922 to Conrad J. and Pearl Gerstner Petersen in Alpine, Utah. He married Hazel Smith September 7, 1942 in Draper, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He resided in Sandy, Utah and was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions. His favorite was working in the baptistry at the Jordan River Temple. He loved the mountains, camping, fishing, and gardening. He worked for Albertsons and retired in 1987 after 35 years of serving as Bakery Manager.He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel; children, Kathryn (David) White, Karen (Shirl) Harding, Neil (Leslie) Petersen, Jay (Cherie) Petersen, and Grant (Carrie) Petersen. Also survived by 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Luana (Robert) Smith; and brother, Clarence (Faye) Petersen. Proceded in death by grandson, Scott Petersen, and brothers, Charles, Louis, and LeGrande.

Funeral services will be held at the Crescent South Stake Center, 275 East 10600 South on Thursday, January 29 at 11 a.m. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 at Memorial Estates, 5850 South 900 East and one hour prior to the service. Burial, Alpine City Cemetery.
