A resolution declaring 1998 as The Year of the Farmer has been signed by Gov. Mike Leavitt.

The resolution signed Monday was the first bill enacted by the 1998 Legislature and signed by the governor. It urges people "to reflect on how farming, ranching and agriculture in general greatly impact their way of life."Sponsoring Sen. Alarik Myrin, R-Altamont, Duchesne County, said the productive efforts of farmers in supplying the rest of the population with food and the issues of swelling cities affect the lives of all residents.
