It's an Academy Award first - a fanfare.

Oscar-winning composer Jerry Goldsmith has written the first official musical theme in the show's 70-year history: "Fanfare for Oscar," to be performed by an 83-piece orchestra during the March 23 show."It seems odd that Oscar has to wait 70 years to get his own theme, but it was worth the wait," said Robert Rehme, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Goldsmith called it a "daunting challenge" to create the piece.

"The end result of the 45-second composition is a melding of the Hollywood of the past, the Hollywood of the present and the Hollywood of the future," he said Monday.
