John Vanbiesbrouck made a successful debut with Philadelphia, beating the New York Rangers 1-0 in a season opener Friday night in New York.

Vanbiesbrouck, who signed as a free agent with the Flyers in the offseason after playing with the Florida Panthers, only had to make 20 saves for his 30th career shutout.New York's Mike Richter faced 30 shots, giving up only a second-period power-play goal to Alexandre Daigle.

PANTHERS 4, LIGHTNING 1: Mark Parrish's first two NHL goals broke a tie in the third period as Florida christened its new arena by beating Tampa Bay.

Parrish, who tied for the league lead with six preseason goals, scored his first career goal at 2:34 of the period to break a 1-1 tie, then gave the Panthers a cushion with another goal at 8:24.

Viktor Kozlov assisted on both goals and scored two of his own as the Panthers moved into their $185 million home in Fort Lauderdale's western suburbs after five seasons in the Miami Arena.

Jassen Cullimore scored the Lightning's lone goal.
