A small plane overshot the runway at the Provo Municipal Airport Saturday afternoon and made an unexpected landing in Utah Lake.
The two men traveling in the 1961 Cessna were unharmed and rescued by boat, said Provo Police Lt. Mark West.The accident was called in to Provo police dispatch at 4:08 p.m. and rescue units from the Provo police and fire departments along with Utah state parks personnel and the Utah County Sheriff's Office responded.
The plane, which was upside down in the water, was located on the south side of the airport's dike. West said the plane was en route from Spanish Fork to Provo when the engine failed.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and an investigation into the cause of the failure is pending.
