William Edwin Jones, known by his family and friends as Bill, 58, of Orem, died October 8, 1998, in Provo, Utah.
He was born March 23, 1940, in Provo, Utah, to Elmer George and Uvonne Cora Hooley Jones. He married Alice Fay Howard Oliverson, June 17, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1958. He also graduated from the U.S. Naval School of Music in Washington D.C. in 1960, and was certified as a heavy equipment operator. Over the next eight years he was a full time Navy musician serving in Japan, Hong Kong, Viet Nam, California and Florida. His military career ended January 1, 1998, retiring from the Naval Reserves Cee Bee Section.He worked for Geneva Steel in the Coke Plant for 22 years. He loved gardening, home remodeling, football, Utah Jazz, traveling and golf. He was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His family was very important. He always loved hosting home gatherings and barbecues, as well as watching the children and enjoying the family events. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill is survived by his wife, Fay; his children, Jeffrey Jones, Colorado; Clint (Syndi) Jones, Illinois; Julie (Rex) Geissler, California; Gorden (Tami) Oliverson, Lawerence (Tomi) Oliverson, Wendy Hargis, all of Orem, Utah; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, JoAnn Richins, Salt Lake City; Carol Rhone, Pleasant Grove; and a numerous host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 12, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
