SHARE EPA sues 3 firms that do business on reservation

The Environmental Protection Agency has filed suit over alleged failure to comply with provisions of the Clean Water Act by three companies working on the Navajo Indian Reservation.

According to Lou Grunwald of the EPA's San Francisco office, the agency filed suit against Speedy's Convenience Inc., Indian County Petroleum Inc., and Giant Industries Arizona Inc. for failure to prepare plans to control oil spills on the reservation.In Utah, Giant Industries Arizona Inc. was cited for alleged failure to prepare and implement a Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures plan from 1993 to 1997 for its crude oil storage and tanker transfer facility in Montezuma Creek.
