Spanish Civil War veterans Bob Reed, left, and Abe Osheroff stand by new monument in Seattle dedicated to those who fought against facism in the 1930s. The two were part of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, the 3,000-strong American contingent of the International Brigade of "For Whom the Bell Tolls" fame. More than one-third of the Americans died in the unsuccessful effort to keep Francisco Franco from taking power. The memorial says, "Viva la Brigada Lincoln!"
