Maynard Parker, who was editor of Newsweek magazine for 17 years, died Friday of complications from pneumonia. He was 58.
Parker, who died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, had recently recovered from leukemia, Newsweek said in a statement.He was hospitalized Sept. 13 after he closed Newsweek's issue on independent prosecutor Kenneth Starr's report to Congress.
Parker was named editor in 1982 and took over day-to-day operations of the magazine in 1991.
