Custom Hardwood Floor Inc. and Utah Hardwood Flooring Inc. have been shut down and their owner, Julie Jenkins, banned from doing business in Utah, the Division of Consumer Protection said.

The division, part of the Utah Department of Commerce, said it has issued a cease and desist order against Jenkins and her companies after numerous consumer complaints. The division contended that Jenkins repeatedly engaged in deceptive business practices in violation of the Utah Consumer Sales Practices Act.

Customers of the flooring companies said they gave Jenkins advance payment, but she failed to perform the work.

In all, the division presented seven complaints worth more than $11,000. In each of those cases, the money was paid in advance to Jenkins or her companies, but the work was never started and refunds were never made.
