Albertson's Inc. said Monday it has completed the acquisition of Buttrey Food & Drug Stores Co. for $134 million.

The deal was first announced last January.Boise-based Albertson's is among the nation's largest food-drug retail chains, with 967 stores in 25 Western, Midwestern and Southern states, including 40 in Utah.

Buttrey, based in Great Falls, Mont., had 43 stores in Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota.

To complete the deal, Albertson's agreed to sell 15 Buttrey stores in Montana and Wyoming to address Federal Trade Commission concerns.

Albertson's is in the process of acquiring Salt Lake-based American Stores in an $11.7 billion deal that would make it the nation's largest food and drug chain.
