The Trans-Jordan Cities Landfill will celebrate completion of the first phase of its long-awaited upgrade Saturday with an open house and reduced dumping fees.
For one day only, residents of the landfill's member cities will be charged a buck a load to dump a standard-sized pickup load of garbage or less.To take advantage of the lower fee, however, landfill users will need to pick up a coupon from their respective city offices on Friday. The landfill, located at 10873 S. 7200 West, will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Member cities include Midvale, Murray, Sandy, West Jordan, South Jordan, Draper and Riverton.
Dwayne Wooley, landfill general manager, urged area residents to attend the open house Saturday to tour the new operations and maintenance building as well as the first of six new environmentally engineered landfill cells.
People taking advantage of the one-day reduction in dumping fees are cautioned that all loads must be covered with a tarp and securely tied down.
The landfill doubles its normal $7 dumping fee for users who fail to cover and tie down loads, bringing the charge to $14. As part of that charge, however, users are given a tarp so they can cover future loads.
