The U.S. Constitution states that the government should not respect one religion over another. By having a state-sponsored "Bible Week," the government is doing just that. Even if it is a "tradition," as the Deseret News says it is (Deseret News, Nov. 23), it is wrong. I do not wish to see my tax dollars spent on something as blatantly in violation of our Constitution as "Bible Week."

If we are to honor the Bible, we must also have a week devoted to the celebration of each and every holy book of every religion practiced in the United States, not just major ones like Islam and Judaism. Don't forget Hindu, Unitarian, Unification, Taoism, Buddhism, Jakeism (which I practice), Shinto, every pagan and animist religion, Satanism, etc. Need I go on? Are there enough weeks in the year for each of these religions' holy books?Citizens of this great nation who consider themselves defenders of the Constitution cannot, in good conscience, support "Bible Week." Religion has no place in government. Period.
