METZ BAKING CO. ACQUIRES GRANDMA SYCAMORE'S BAKERY

Metz Baking Co. of Deerfield, Ill. has acquired Grandma Sycamore's Bakery of Provo from private owners. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.Grandma Sycamore is a leading brand of premium 100 percent natural, no preservative breads.

"Grandma Sycamore has developed a very loyal following among its many consumers throughout the state of Utah. We are very proud to add the Grandma Sycamore brand products to our existing offerings," said Robert B. Aiken, president of Metz. "This acquisition strongly supports our strategic plans for the future in Utah and throughout our service area."

Metz Baking Co. is a leading retail bread company serving 16 states in the Midwest. Metz is a subsidiary of Specialty Foods Corp.

ZIONS BANCORP. ANNOUNCESCOMPLETION OF VECTRA DEAL

Zions Bancorp. said Tuesday that it and its Colorado subsidiary, Vectra Bank Colorado, have completed their previously announced acquisition of Colorado-based Citizens Banco Inc. and its subsidiary Citizens Bank.

Citizens Bank will be merged into Vectra, raising Vectra's assets to $1.9 billion and making it the fifth largest commercial bank in Colorado with 53 banking locations.

S.L.'S WYNDHAM NAMED POSHEST BUSINESS HOTEL

The Wyndham Hotel was named Salt Lake City's Poshest Business Hotel in the Nov. 23 issue of Fortune magazine.

The Wyndham recently finished a $5.5 million renovation that included guest rooms, the lobby area and conference space. It features 15,000 square feet of meeting space.

MYRIAD GENETICS RECEIVES LAB PANEL'S ACCREDITATION

Myriad Genetics Laboratories Inc. of Salt Lake City has received a two-year accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists based on the results of a recent on-site inspection.

Myriad Genetics is one of more than 6,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide. The organization's accreditation program is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government's own inspection program.

US WEST AWARDS $160,000 IN GRANTS FOR EDUCATION

US WEST announced Tuesday it has awarded an estimated $160,000 in grants for technology-related education programs to benefit children and adults from diverse communities throughout Utah.

Grant recipients include the United Way of the Great Salt Lake Area, Rose Park Together Community School, College of Eastern Utah in Price, Lowell School and Ogden Area Community Action Agency. Each organization has been awarded cash, computer equipment, software and special technology training.

US WEST said it has contributed more than $1.1 million in Utah to education, arts, civic and community improvement and human services organizations.
