Post office officials felt a little redfaced Tuesday after discovering no mail was stolen last week as was earlier reported.

"'We're embarrassed," Salt Lake City Postmaster Ralph Hamilton said. "But the security of the mail is so important to us, that when it appeared some had been stolen, we wanted to quickly notify our customers of precautions they should take."Hamilton reported last week that the mail from collection boxes in West Valley City was stolen over Thanksgiving. It wasn't a thief who took the mail but a post office employee who made an unscheduled pickup.

Hamilton is still urging customers to take precautions when using the mail system.
