PROVO -- A Provo man was recently recognized as one of the state's top Special Olympics athletes.
Robert C. Greenland, 31, was named the 1998 Central Area Athlete of the Year, marking the first time in nearly 20 years a Provoan has received the award.Greenland competed in track during the Utah Special Olympics at Brigham Young University last summer and basketball at the University of Utah in September.
"I like Special Olympics because it helps kids know one another and we have a family connection," he said.

Greenland has competed in the annual event for five years. He received the award at a banquet last month.
