The Salvation Army needs volunteer bell ringers to help with the 1998 Salt Lake Basin Red Kettle Fund-raising Campaign, which runs daily through Thursday, Dec. 24.
Last year, volunteers helped the Salvation Army raise $165,000 with the traditional "Red Kettles" stationed at Salt Lake Valley stores and malls.This year's goal is to raise $190,000.
The Salvation Army provides food for the hungry, companionship to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims and assistance for the disabled.
Volunteer bell ringers must be at least 18.
For scheduling purposes, volunteers are asked to commit to shifts six to eight hours long.
