Margie Johnson Smith, daughter of Mormon pioneer stock, loving wife and mother, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998. She was 78 and lived almost all her life in Utah--most of that time within walking distance of the old Fort Union in Midvale where she played as a girl.
Born Marjorie Walker on February 6, 1920, she raised five children and survived two husbands--Erland Edward Johnson and Horace Smith, both deceased. Margie's manner captured the hearts of those who loved her. She loved to laugh and to dance and could recall, even decades later, all the vivid details of her nights as a footloose teenager at the old Coconut Grove in Salt Lake.She is survived by two daughters, Pat Stott Nosack, Sandy, Utah; Wendy Neal, Clovis, CA; two sons, Wayne Johnson, Battleground, WA; Kirk Johnson, Westfield, NJ; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Another son, Gary, died in 1997.
Funeral services Saturday, December 5, 1998 at 1 p.m. in the Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State where friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
